After long last, I’m finally going back to school to study medical lab technology! I’m incredibly excited to go back to school to become a med lab technologist. It was a long time coming, but I finally jumped at the opportunity at the end of 2025.
If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that I’ve been working at a medical retail store for the past 3+ years. Switching from the lab to a customer service job was a difficult decision, but ultimately did help a lot with my personal growth and interpersonal skills (and I got paid a bit more). I’ve really learned how to deal with high stress situations and how to navigate the workplace when tensions are high. I’ve learned how to be a leader in a team and how to support them when they need help. I have learned A LOT about home healthcare – from ostomy education to wound care to bracing and mobility aids; if I hadn’t worked in this store, I wouldn’t have known about this side of healthcare.
I’m incredibly grateful for my time at the store. I’ll miss my coworkers and the team dynamic that we had, and I’ll even miss some of our regular customers who’ve come to trust me with their medical supplies, but I’m glad I’ll be stepping away from customer service for a bit. Some days are easy and I get to interact with some very pleasant individuals, and of course some days some people just test your patience and drain you. I think over the past couple of years, it’s been draining me a little bit more everyday. Maybe it’s the introvert in me telling me that I don’t take enough time for myself to recharge, maybe it’s the part of me that wants to keep striving for new skills; I’ve just gotten to the point here at the store where I am ready to move on.
It’s a bit weird going back to school when I’m almost 30 years old. I keep thinking about the fact that my class will probably be a mix of people straight of high school and people my age or older. I did experience that when I went to school for my Medical Lab Assistant/Technician diploma, but this I feel will be a different vibe since I’ll be going to a larger college.
We’ll see how it goes! Hooray for more education!!
