Hello World! It’s been a while

Oh geez, it’s April 2022 already and I haven’t written anything for this blog since June 2021… oops!

Quite a bit has happened since I last posted on here, so here’s a little life update:

A New Job

I got a new job as an Order Input Operator (aka a data enterer) and I work from home now. My previous job as an MLA in COVID-19 specimen management was a temporary position, with the contract ending at the end of 2021, so I decided to pursue my current position to stay with the company for a bit longer.

It’s a really simple position that still requires a lot of attention to detail since you’re inputting patient and doctor information. It has its pros and cons working from home of course, but overall I enjoy it!

Two Articles

If you haven’t seen yet, I had the privilege to be apart of the Winter 2022 issues of MLPAO’s (Medical Laboratory Professionals Association of Ontario) ADVOCATE magazine and the Canadian Journal of Medical Laboratory Science from CSMLS (the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science).

In ADVOCATE: Growing New Skills, Sharing Experiences: Gratitude Inside and Outside the Laboratory.

In CJMLS: Member Spotlight: Blending the Lab and Art.

I’m incredibly grateful to have used my platform to share my experiences and advocate for med lab professionals, especially over the past 2 years. Honestly It was hard for me to write for both of those since I’ve never written for magazines/journals before. I had to really bring back my formal writing skills that I haven’t used in years!

A New Commission

I also had the privilege to create artwork for CSMLS!

With some of the same images being used for National Medical Laboratory Week 2022 which is from April 10 – April 16, 2022. Check out the toolkit and more info about CSMLS’s message by going to: https://labweek.csmls.org

An Exciting Project

Around September 2021, I was asked by my friend Xander if I wanted to be apart of a project with him and a couple of other Medical Lab Professionals to create an website to provide accessible resources for med lab students and professionals worldwide. Since then, we’ve worked together and successfully launched our website MedLabScholar in February 2022!

If you’re a medical laboratory student or professional, feel free to become a member on our website or sign-up for our newsletter! It’s free and you’ll have full access to everything on the site such as:

  • Uploading and downloading Community Resources
  • Signing up to become a mentor or mentee
  • Get to hear the latest news on any of our projects or new items in our shop!

It was a lot of hard work to get this website together. As the UX manager for MedLabScholar, I can tell you that there are a lot of things behind the scenes that go into creating and maintaining the website. It was a overwhelming at times, but it all came together in the end! I’m so glad to be apart of such a great team!

Check out our site and our social media pages!

This blog post almost feels like half an ad lolol. My life has been mostly projects and making sure I’m mostly financially stable tho since I last wrote anything for this site.

My days have been spent working, playing video games, collecting Pokémon cards, and occasionally drawing and reading. Recently I decided to enrol in some courses such as MLPAO’s PCR course as well as take some science communication/illustration courses through Lifeology and Skillshare.

It was quite a struggle to balance everything. Once I get into the rhythm of things, something gets added on or causes trouble to overwhelm me a bit more than I was before. Also the lack of motivation to do anything new hit me quite a bit too, hence lack of illustrations and blog posts for the couple of months now. Very much in a meh part. I pushed myself a bit too hard last year which I didn’t realize until this earlier this year. Whoops 😅

Let’s see how often I post this year!

Thanks so much for reading and for being patient with me!

I hope you have a nice day!
