First post of 2019! Horray!
I’ve been reflecting the past two days on what I want to do career-wise moving forward into this new year, and who I want to be by the end of 2019. I wanted to share with you what I’ve been thinking of.
Academic life
This year will be my last year at the University of Waterloo, thus ending my undergraduate studies with a BSc in General Science and a minor in biology. I’ve learned so much the past 4 years about myself and what field of science that interests me the most. I’m quite glad that UW offers a general science since I never particularly knew which field of science I wanted to dive into coming out of high school. I now know that I want to focus on going into biotechnology, micro/molecular biology and/or bioinformatics/genomics field, and now I can effectively plan out my post-undergrad studies. I’ve applied to biotechnology diploma programs at local colleges in the hopes of adding and enhancing the skills I’ve acquired during my undergrad.
So hopefully all goes well with that plan!

Personal Goals
To end this post, I wanted to share my goals for 2019 with you. They haven’t changed much since last year but they are more specific in comparison.
Here they are:
- Relax, try not to overwhelm my schedule with too many things
This one is important to me since I have a habit of trying to do too many things such as volunteering, participating in clubs while trying to juggle work and school at the same time. Last year I ended up becoming the secretary for a club UWFSA, I also volunteered at the science society’s coffee and donut shop and during the open houses at the university. This on top of schoolwork and being a Shift leader at work, I found myself constantly overwhelmed and stressed out. This year, I gotta chill by relaxing my schedule. - Post more on this blog
I haven’t invested as much time on this blog as I want to. My goal for this year is to post once per month. If I post more than once then that’s even better. - Take more pictures.
I want to take more pictures of everything, especially with my camera that I don’t use often. I won’t necessarily upload all of them but I want to have them at least. - Stop worrying about the little things.
This sort of connects to the first one I wrote and it’s something which has followed me for a long time. I always worry and sometimes it’s about the most mundane things you could possibly imagine. It’s a big waste of time and I would love if I could do less of it in the New Year. - Start working out again and eat healthy (and find a sustainable rhythm that keeps me healthy while still having time for other things.)
What did you expect? Of course, there is going to be something about my health! I found myself getting sick a lot last year, not feeling great (both mentally and physically), etc. For the first 6 months of 2018 I tried my best to be healthy, but as the year went on I got lazier and became more unhealthy. I ate more and exercised less.
This year I want to cook more at home, as well as take advantage of the free gym at the university more (especially cause it’s my last year). I need to improve my health.
