After years of being a student, this coming September will be my last year here at UW – finishing my Bachelors in Science with minor in biology, and I don’t know what I want to do afterwards.
I’ve been thinking a lot about self growth and what I want future me to look like. Watching influencers like Lavendaire, and listening to their advice has really helped me think about myself and what I want to do in the coming years.
Here’s what I know for sure I want to do by the time I graduate/ when I graduate:
- Apply to college programs and grab a diploma in biotechnology
- Obtain a job at home – part-time/full-time to start (ideally somewhere in science, but a job at the mall or at a Chapters-Indigo would be pretty sweet too)
- Practice more self-care and growth
I know those are pretty typical goals for those who graduate, but to me they’re very big since I constantly feel like I’m not going to be able to graduate. I know after the fall term I can graduate, but it still seems like a very far achievement that I have to work hard for.
In terms of myself and my mental health, I want to be happy.
I don’t want to be depressed and constantly feel negative about my program and the program name that will be on my diploma. I want to be happy and content with what I’m doing now, and that I don’t have to worry about the future – that it’ll be okay when I graduate and I can get a job in my field. I want to be happy with my family and my partner and feel proud. I hope that in a years time, I’ll be okay.
